Liability Coverage

General Liability: A must for all organizations, general liability insurance protects you if you are sued by someone who claims that you caused their physical injury or damaged their property. Markel offers limits up to $1 million per occurrence/$3 million aggregate. (Per occurrence is the maximum amount paid on a covered individual claim; aggregate is the maximum amount paid on all covered claims combined, within the policy period.)

Sexual Abuse and Molestation Liability: Markel offers this hard-to-find, critical coverage for situations that can be explosive. Markel's professional, compassionate claims associates are experts at successfully resolving sensitive claims involving children, and will handle your claim with discretion and tact.

Directors' and Officers' Liability (Nonprofits only): This coverage pays the costs to defend your nonprofit's directors or board members if they are sued for decisions they've made.

Child Abduction Liability: If a child is kidnapped while in your care, this coverage pays expenses your organization and the child's parents incur to recover the child, up to the policy limit.

Professional Liability: Covers vicarious liability for the insured. Coverage can be provided for employed and volunteer physicians and psychiatrists who provide care for clients on behalf of the insured.

Special Events: This coverage protects you from liability during field trips, fund-raisers, and other special events. You don't need to buy a separate policy for most special events.

Volunteers as Additional Insureds: When your organization uses volunteers, they're acting on your behalf. This coverage defends their unintentional negligent acts as it defends your own.

General Liability Plus Extension:  Provides a bundled group of coverage extensions such as damage to premises rented to you up to the occurrence limit and per location aggregate.

Umbrella Liability: Provides extra protection for catastrophic events. Umbrella liability goes into effect after you've exceeded the limits of your general or auto liability insurance. Limits up to $10 million are available.

Property Coverage

Commercial Property Extension Endorsements: Provide a bundled group of  coverages on one form such as accounts receivable, debris removal, fire department service charge, newly acquired buildings and personal property, outdoor property, refrigerated goods spoilage, and more.

Systems Breakdown: Protects you when any mechanical, electrical, or pressure system breaks down. This includes heating and air conditioning systems, computers, boilers, refrigerators, hot water heaters, and telephone systems.

Key Employee Replacement: Helps you get back to business as quickly as possible following the loss of a key staff member. Provides the funds for a temporary replacement, and to find a qualified permanent replacement.

Other Coverage

Accident Medical: This coverage pays medical bills (up to the policy limit) if your staff, volunteers, or clients are injured at your facility and have no insurance of their own, or their bills exceed what their insurance pays. You can think of accident medical insurance as a goodwill gesture--by paying the injured person's medical bills now, you may be able to avoid a lawsuit later.

Automobile: Covers owned, leased, non-owned, and hired vehicles, such as cars, vans, pickups, and buses used at your facility. Automobile Plus Extension provides coverage extensions such as hired physical damage and rental reimbursement.

Business Income: If your facility is temporarily closed due to a covered loss (fire, lightning, windstorm), business income insurance covers your lost income and continuing expenses.

Crime: This coverage protects you from employee dishonesty, theft of money or securities, and forgery.

Inland Marine: Covers your valuable papers, EDP, signs, property off premises, and miscellaneous articles and equipment.

Markel Basic Health Insurance: Perfect for small organizations that can't afford traditional comprehensive major medical, Markel Basic Health insurance pays limited benefits directly to insureds for the most common types of services, such as doctor's office visits and diagnostic tests. Note that this is not major medical insurance. (Markel Basic Health insurance is not available in all states.)
